What will you learn here ?

The Consumer Credit Academy is not a real school -at least not yet-, however, that doesn't mean there is no value to what we have to share with you.

In this course, you will learn the fundamentals of how and why decisions are made in the consumer credit industry, who the decision makers are, and a lot more.

There is a lot of information in this class that you will not find anywhere else. Some financial websites will tell you the "what", I will try to to explain the "why" and "who".

The length of the course is equivalent to a 125 page book. The cost of the course is $20, and believe me, the information here can help you save much more than that.

This is the list of Lessons included in the course:
1- A Brief History of Credit
12- Subprime Consumer Lending
2- What is Risk Management ?
13- Retail Lending
3- Stuck with a high interest rate ?
14- Consumer Finance and Debt Consolidation
4- Don't they make enough already ?
15- Debit Cards and Rent to Own
5- Adverse Selection
16- Mortgages and the Recession
6- Elasticity
17- Which Mortgage is good for you ?
7- Fees
18- Who are those people ?
8- Risk Based Pricing
19- Outrunning Losses and Marketing
9- Margins and Profits
20- Laws and the FTC
10- Credit Bureaus
21- What can you do ?
11- Credit Cards

If you ever wanted to know
  • What are credit bureaus, how they work, how they affect you.
  • What laws regulate lending, how they protect you (or not).
  • Why do some people always seem to get the worse deals ?
  • What lending practices are out there, do they really nickel and dime you?
  • How do they make money ?
  • Who are the players and decision makers, are they really evil people hoping you never pay off your debts ?
  • What can you do to protect yourself ?
  • What really triggered the crisis, who is to blame and who made money out of it ?
Enjoy !

Message to the Professionals.

This course is not a technical review of credit practices.

The target audience is the general public, in plain language, and its objective is to explain what we do, and how we do it.

If you have an idea, or knowledge you want to share, and you'd like to structure your own course, please feel free to get in touch with me.

After all, credit education is also a way of minimizing risk exposure.

Thanks.

Who am I ?
by Admin User - Monday, 26 April 2010, 05:40 PM

I am a computer scientist by training, part actor, writer and musician. I also happen to be very good at Consumer Credit Risk Management.

Right after college, I started to work for a major global financial institution, and for 11 years, I had the fortune of learning tons of things about credit cards, risk management, marketing, and credit operations.

Afterward, I took a job with another major global financial institution where I learned even more about statistical modeling and consumer loans.

Then I decided to explore the sub prime arena and took a job with an internet payday lender. There I learned a big deal about the regulations, risks and more importantly, customer sentiment.

In my search to continue expanding my experience, I took a job with a retailer that issues its own private label card. It has also been also a very interesting experience, and has brought me even closer to truly understand why real people need credit, and how real people don't see themselves as we like to classify them.

I have always had the feeling that there is a lack of knowledge in the general market about what credit and risk really are about.

I put together this course to share with you the principles of what I have learned through many years. By sharing this, I hope to contribute to bring fairness to the credit process and level the playing field, so regular people are more informed, and less at the mercy of an industry where economics, statistics and profits have long superseded serving the individual.

Enjoy !

Welcome to the Consumer Credit Academy.com site.

Ever wondered why you got a higher interest rate ? Why your minimum payment went up ? Why your credit limits were suddenly reduced ?

This may happen to you regardless of you having good or bad credit.

After working for years in the consumer finance industry, and seeing first hand how people are defenseless against an industry that has many objectives in mind other than helping YOU, I decided to open this site, to educate consumers about why lenders make the decisions they make, how their businesses truly operate, how their decisions affect you, what laws protect you (or not), and what alternatives you have to take more control of your financial destiny.

I still work in financial services, and as an insider, I try to influence my organization to be a responsible lender. I hope this effort will help.

I know you will find the course very enlightening.

Thank you.
